GARRETT DEXTER

From Roxbury, New Jersey, Garrett Dexter is a music educator who values creating diverse opportunities for his students and their communities. Although still attending Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, Dexter already has invaluable teaching and performing experience. His teaching methods have been described as “thoughtful and engaging,” “clear and detailed,” and even “very fun and effective.” Garrett Dexter has attributed his increase in both teaching and performing opportunities to his clear values in educating himself in music and education topics alike, and performing at a high level. 

With his various scholarships awarded to him, Garrett Dexter is currently a senior at Indiana University Bloomington’s Jacobs School of Music, pursuing a Bachelor’s in Music Education - Instrumental Band on euphonium. Here, he is under the tutelage of the world-renowned Demondrae Thurman. In the Spring of 2021, Garrett Dexter was a student teacher at Greenfield Central High School in Greenfield, Indiana. Here, he led both high school concert bands and jazz bands to a Gold rating for ISSMA, and also led the eighth grade concert band to a Gold rating as well. After graduation, he will move back to his hometown of Succasunna, New Jersey, where he will begin his music education career.
